As some audiences may know, I have been a student of the Atlanta Professional Dance Academy since I was four years old. Believe it or not I still remember sitting next to Mr. Wei my very first ballet class wondering why I was dressed in an uncomfortable pink article of clothing. (I soon learned that uncomfortable cloth was called a leotard and if I wanted to dance ballet, I better get use to it quick!) Besides not knowing why I was forced to wear such strange attire, what I also didn’t know was that that first ballet class was a stepping-stone to a new beginning of a talent, passion and dream that would stick with me for years to come. With the APDA I have received extensive dance training one cannot find anywhere else. I continued to train throughout the years and my technique, artistic voice, and love for ballet only flourished.
As a student of the APDA for so many years, I have not only received incredible dance training from superb teachers, but also I have learned life lessons that I can take with me after graduating from high school. I have learned the importance of teamwork, obedience, time management, and perseverance. I have learned to face both mental and physical challenges that have made me a stronger dancer and also a better person. Not to mention my Chinese has also improved a great deal! All of these qualities I could never have received from school or from home, and I feel I am better prepared for the future because it.
Seeing as I am now a senior in high school and I will be going off to college soon, my time as a student with the APDA is coming to a close. I hope to visit often and continue to support the studio and it’s younger dancers. I hope they are able to experience and learn all that I have, and more.
To my family, I want to thank you with all my heart for your love and support over the past thirteen years. From the car rides, to the investment in point shoes, and sewing of costumes, I could not have asked for more.
To all my teachers, I am the grown young lady I am today because of you. You have taught me so much and it has impacted my life a great deal. The extensive knowledge and caring support you have provided has shaped me into who I am today.
One last special thank you to Mrs. Jenny and Mr. Wei. You have watched me grow since the first day I came you, clueless with my big brown eyes. You both are so very dear to me, and truly are my second set of parents. Thank you for your patience, your love, and your support as I have grown through the years. Now as I leave, and continue on to what the future has in store for me, I will never forget what I have learned with the APDA and you will always hold a very special place in my heart.
Love,
Patricia Ford
